A little bead knowledge · 1 minute

Is a white bead the same as an empty cell?

The short answer

White beads are counted just like any other color. Empty cells are positions with no bead. On a pale page they can look similar, so check the cell outlines and the materials list.

A white bead, or no bead?

Keep the flower’s white petals, then remove them. Watch the materials count change.

14 beads · 10 white · 35 empty positions

White petals are real beads. They belong in the materials list.

Original teaching diagram · 7 × 7 cells. This changes only this example.

Keep these in mind

  • A transparent background can become empty positions in a pattern.
  • A white background can become real white beads. Check the result before making it.
  • Clearing a bead removes it from the materials count; painting it white keeps a bead there.
