What are palettes and color codes for?

The short answer

A palette is the set of color references used by a pattern. Its codes help you identify and prepare materials. Keep the brand and series with the code, especially when comparing patterns or switching brands.

A swatch is a clue. The code is the reference.

Choose a swatch to see its brand and full color code.

Keep these in mind

  • A screen swatch is an approximate visual reference, not a physical color guarantee.
  • Different palettes may have different colors and codes, even when two swatches look close.
  • Our built-in palettes use fixed, versioned references. A saved pattern keeps the meanings of its colors.
